Hearty congratulations to ELC Project Director Deborah Curran on her recent Smarty Award from Smart Growth BC!
Smart Growth BC is a non-profit society that promotes environmentally responsible land use and development. Their annual Smarty Awards recognize the contributions of people and projects that further smart growth principles across the province.
A co-founder and former president of Smart Growth BC, Deborah has worked for over a decade on land use and sustainability issues. She regularly speaks at local, provincial and national conferences on municipal law, land use and sustainability issues. Deborah advises local governments and community organizations interested in urban sustainability; and she was instrumental in developing the Green Bylaws Toolkit, a comprehensive resource of planning and regulatory tools to help local governments protect threatened ecosystems and maintain green infrastructure.
“Creating livable communities requires an integrated approach to development and a long-term vision,” Deborah said in 2001 when she was president of Smart Growth BC.
Deborah currently manages the ELC Associates Program and teaches the ELC Intensive Stream course. She also teaches Municipal and Real Estate Law.
Well deserving of the Smarty award, Deborah inspires staff and students with her approach to the practice of law, and we are proud to have her on the ELC team.
Way to go, Smarty Pants!
